Over and over again we hear about social media everywhere. People have found new uses to it, new developments, etc. To think back and realize it all started just to be more connected with one another. But it seems that on a daily basis– correction on a “secondly” basis– there are new uses. We’re digging deeper and deeper to discover time after time how life altering this whole movement has become.
One of the latest discoveries, backed up by experiments, scientists, experts and research is that Twitter can predict the future. But not just any future… the FINANCIAL future. You can see the exact results here
It says that by checking out the kind of words or emotions used on each tweet around the world, one can come up with a 3 to 4 day in advance prediction on stock market values! Can you imagine the impact this causes? Executives and brokers around the world can take this into full advantage and exponentially increase their earnings. Nevertheless, it can go the exact opposite way around. Imagine you could know 3 days in advance that a certain company will go bankrupt. Then panic could blow out of proportion.
Then one comes to think about other potential uses. If it can predict the stock market, what other things can it predict? Trends, fashion, celebrities, weather even? Things that may seem out of control, but with enough time to predict them, something can be done about it.
However, a tool this powerful, should have a warning sign. Just like that “Caution: Hot Beverage” little sign printed on the side of every coffee cup. Even though you know you are carrying a hot cup of coffee around, you still forget that it may pour down your clothes and ruin your day in under 3 seconds. Twitter, and any other social media for that matter, should be used wisely. We are saying all the good things, good fruits that have come from these developments, but abuse can always bring trouble. Let’s not let this resource also get wasted or overused.
