There was a time when everybody paused their attention on regular cellular phones and turned to look on Nextel. It was such a fever then, that you could see people walking in the street, in classrooms, office buildings, restaurants, oh well, pretty much everywhere with a beeping phone in their hands having a loud conversation with the person on the other hand.
This radio technology was designed primarily to have an “intra”-network for businesses and companies. It was even better if the company had worldwide branches, so calling each other would be much much cheaper. But of course the trend was poured onto other kinds of people. Mostly juniors if you ask me. They were practically waving the phone around, increasing their voice volume so that the world would notice they had the latest technology.
It all sort of started shutting down, at least among non-business groups, for they started switching to smart phones. Who needed a loud conversation when they can have all of their social networks silently awaiting under their fingers? But just as soon as you thought the loud awkward details from another person’s private life were being displayed on scene, think again.
This new app “Loud Talks” allows your BlackBerry to act as a Nextel phone. It even has the same beeping sound when you press the button to start talking. The walkie talkie like app has invaded the market in such a short time that I’m expecting to start hearing those conversations again everywhere I go. Will it be a fad or will it be the permanent return of the megaphone?
