Talk about a self imposed job! When I first started this blog, I would never had imagined all the perks it brings along. I have to be honest and say that I didn’t really expect much from it at all. I started it simply because I felt like I needed a space in which to express myself, mostly about my major and the little gadget geek I have inside me.
Not much time went by when I started to understand all the real perks it brought. I saw friends of mine starting their own blogs. They (and me as well) started to have people commenting from all over the world. People they wouldn’t have “met” or heard from otherwise. Then it all began to be a major network; especially if you have your blog address linked to any other of your pages.
Once I graduated, my blog was the [one] thing that practically made me interesting to employers. And voilà! Here I am as a community manager. Now, I still keep it up, mind you, but just because I love my little expression space. Who knows what other perks it’ll bring? I’m still surprised by it every day.
And then, I found this article on my feed bar yesterday: “How Blogging Gives Student Journalists an Edge in the Job Market” the title pretty much says it all. I kept on reading and they presented solid examples of the situation. I couldn’t help but completely relate to it, almost raising my hand up to the author, telling him to add marketers to the title. Heck, he could insert any profession nowadays into the title.
What the article especially talked about was that having a blog, especially for people who’s job is related to written press, is more like an (unpaid?) self employment. It gives you the right experience to be critical and analytical (in subjective cases) or plain fact highlighter (in objective cases). Who or what else can give you that sort of thing? Kudos for bloggers then!
