After the 83rd Academy Awards Ceremony, you’d think they would have put on a show other than just giving the most deserved prizes to their respective artists. Don’t get me wrong, watching incredibly talented people go up the stairs to hold their golden statuette for the first (or several repeated times) is rewarding enough for an appreciative fan. But the charm and quality entertainment exuded by the host(s) is always essential as well.
When it was Hugh Jackman’s turn to present, he did an impeccable job. Of course the hard working tap number (mind you) was may be a tad too much, but they made a great effort to care. It just shows the hard work. This year? I’m sorry to say that sitting there just watching Mr. James Franco smile and thinking he’d do a great job just standing there was found wanting.
Anne Hathaway was over doing herself by over smiling and trying to elbow her co-host into getting with the program, while all the while the man was too bored you could practically watch him yawn. He didn’t even look a tad nervous or excited when his nomination came up. In the attempt of “appealing to a younger demographic” in Miss Hathaway’s words, they might have lost more than that in return.
Are Oscars losing their finesse? At least there wasn’t an egg being carried around the red carpet before the ceremony. But then again, Grammy’s are far more exuberant than the old classics. Academy… for next time, at least pay someone to pretend to care on stage. I bet a million people would kill for that job.
